LAHES, the corporate campus and education arm of diversified business conglomerate LAUGFS Holdings, is to launch, what it calls ‘a unique programme addressing the development needs in the plantation sector’.

This programme is titled ‘LAHES Executive Diploma for Leadership in Agri Business’, according to a company media release. It said the plantation sector, the highest foreign exchange earner and the main employment generator of the country until the mid-eighties, has faced many challenges during the past years.

“In order to transform the sector and bring it to the glorious state that it once was, the planters, who are the driving force of the sector, have to be equipped with the knowledge to run the plantation as a modern-day business,” it said.

Director/Chief Executive Officer, Vindhya Weeratunga said, “The objective of this programme is to transform the planter from being a Manager to a leader in the Agri-Business, duly sensing the kinds and trends in the socio economic and political environment. In doing so, key areas of development will be focussed on. The modern day planter needs to act as a Change Agent and integrate with internal and external environments. In designing the programme, we obtained input from different stakeholders of the plantation sector”.
The diploma is six weeks in duration and classes are held on Saturdays at LAHES.
