The Colombo District Snooker Championship which is in full swing now at the Moors SC billiards table in Braybrooke Place saw the tournament reaching the pre-quarter final stage.

The fourth day’s proceedings saw fancied cueists in the likes of Anil Rohana (AAC), Rohitha de Silva (SLPA) and Prasanna Pushpakumara (MICH) who are former national players qualifying to the quarter-finals by winning their pre-quarter final matches easily. In the other quarter-finals that were played saw M. Rilwan (POP), M. Akeel (AAC), T. Thanji (YMCA), I. Ahamed (The Cue) and M.F.M. Fazil (MICH) winning their matches to advance to the quarter-finals.

Apart from Colombo the district the tournament is played in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya which is a prelude to the national snooker championship scheduled to be played in August. The quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Colombo district

tournament are scheduled to be played today from 10.00 a.m. onwards — played over five frames.

Due to the tight schedule the seven frame final has been re-scheduled to be played tomorrow (Monday) from 3.00 p.m. onwards.
Meanwhile Hamjad Sally and Afrul Deen both of Embassy Pool Parlour Kandy qualified to the finals of the Kandy District Snooker tournament which is due to be played today. Sally and Deen defeated club mates S. Johan and S.I. Hinoon in the semi-final encounters played yesterday.

The completion of the three district tournaments will be followed by the All Island Lanka Plate Championship after which the top eight players from Colombo and two each from Kandy and Nuwara Eliya district tournaments will qualify to play in the national snooker championship.
