The Dressage Competition 2014, conducted by the Premadasa Riding School will be held at its premises at Melder Place in Nugegoda on May 31. The competition will set off at 3.00pm with students from the Premadasa Riding School, St. Thomas’ College Gurutalawa and the Victoria Saddle Club expected to participate. According to organisers competitors will be seven years of age and above. “Dressage is the foundation for horse riding competitions the world over. It is the ability of the horse and rider to communicate effectively and efficiently by performing predetermined tests over a short course outline. It is a display of the basic skills learnt in horse riding. This sport is a fascinating element of horse riding, which teaches discipline, team work and fosters a unique partnership with one of nature’s most beautiful creatures,” an official statement issued by the organisers said.

Horse riding is a sport slowly gathering ground in Sri Lanka and its unique nature, where children and adults participation and performance is reliant on the ability and the tameness of the horse that they are riding, is one that often develops amazing relationships with animals and humans. Dressage is a regular feature of horse sports in Sri Lanka and is an ideal platform for horse riders learning the sport to implement their skills and compete.
