Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo will be the venue for the Group ‘A’ matches of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President’s Cup, where Sri Lanka domestic champions Air Force Sports Club also competes.
Besides Sri Lanka Air Force, the Dialog Champions League winners, the group will include KRL Football Club from Pakistan, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd from Bangladesh and Ugyen Academy FC from Bhutan. All four teams will play each other in a league round and the top teams will advance to the second round.
The second round will include six teams – the two top teams from each group and two of the best losers – from a total of 12 teams. The Group ‘A’ matches will be held over three days, beginning from May 7 to 11 with two games scheduled per day.
Salma Mohamed Namshan from Saudi Arabia and Zeng Dan have been appointed by the AFC as the match commissioners while nine AFC referees and assistants will be in Sri Lanka as match officials for the tournament. – NA
