Kandy Chief Magistrate W.T. Vasantha Kumar remanded two suspects for the alleged transport of 6,274 kg refuse tea. The two suspects are Mohammed Faurook and Abdul Cader of Handessa in the Daulagala Police area. The detection was carried out by the Kandy District Vice Division Officer-in-Charge Inspector Rajapakse and a team of officers. Attorney-at-Law Nanda Senanayake moved Court for bail, because this lorry carried ‘made tea’and ‘refuse tea’. He said that if the teas are kept in the lorries until samples are removed for testing and then brought back, the tea would “go bad” during that time. Counsel Senanayke moved that the lorry be released and the suspects be enlarged on bail.

Sgt S.B. Samarakoon who prosecuted told Court that the lorry allegedly contained ‘refuse tea’ and samples would be taken for examination and report.
The Chief Magistrate remanded the suspects till March 19. Sgt. S.B. Samarakoon from the Kandy District Vice Division prosecuted.
