Jayasiri Samaratunga, a veteran in the construction sector, has sent in a letter about an interview that he gave the newspaper under the above headline last week which he says has some inaccuracies.

He said he did not say what has been reflected in the headline of the story.

“In the entire procurement system, regulations and transparent procedures are rigidly adopted, implemented and are being practiced in all the Construction Contracts and other related procurements, I am fully convinced that there is no corruption to be concerned with, in the Sri Lankan Construction Industry,” the letter said.

Mr. Samaratunga said he was involved in the Construction Industry for more than four decades and has been a past Chairman of the National Construction Association of Sri Lanka and affiliated other agencies. He is also a member of the Board of Management of the ICTAD.

Reporters note: Mr. Samaratunga, who spoke to the newspaper at his request, did refer to corruption in some areas in the industry.
