The strategy of the Central Bank to merge financial institutions and its impact on the economy is to be discussed at a seminar to be held at the OPA Auditorium on March 13commencing at 5.00 pm.

It is organised by the Sri Lanka Economic Association (SLEA) to provide a forum for a dialogue on the issue with representatives of the Central Bank, commercial banks, financial institutions, business sector and academia, etc.

Many believe that the ‘persuasive merging strategy’ introduced to financial sector is a positive move while some others are questioning as to whether this will exert undue interference with market forces, SLEA said adding that it has become a relevant topic for discussions.
