Neil Armstrong was the first man to ever step on the moon, on the American
spaceship Apollo 11. He was born on
August 5, 1930 in his grandparents’ farm in Wapakoneta, USA.
From his young age, Armstrong was so interested in aeroplanes and read every book about it. Neil started taking flying lessons and he got his flying license on his 16th birthday.
He entered the University of Purdur on a US Navy scholarship. Armstrong
graduated in 1955 and became a
commander. In 1962, he became an
astronaut of NASA. Then he was chosen
to lead the Apollo 11 mission with
Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.
They took off from Earth on July 16 and it took two days to reach the moon. When he kept his first step on the moon he said, “This is one small step for man, but one giant step for mankind.” He died in the year 2012.
