A clinical performance in the first half helped Kandy SC secure a 29-12 win against Army SC as both teams wound up the Cup segment of the Dialog Division ‘A’ club rugby tournament at the Racecourse ground yesterday.

Kandy dished out their customary performance in the first half to post three tries, two conversions and a penalty to lead the halftime by 22-7.

The Soldiers were mediocre in their counter-attack in the first half but succeeded to match up with Kandy after the turnaround. They allowed Kandy to score only from a converted try but could not capitalise as they too were restricted to an unconverted try by the Hill Country team.

Overall Kandy scored from four tries, three conversions and a penalty against two tries and a conversion of Army. Thilina Wijesinghe, Sailasi Vaitenagetau and the Weeraratne brothers, Roshan and Gayan scored a try each for the winners. Wijesinghe put over three tries while Roshan kicked the penalty. Krishan Pushpakumara and Jalebula Lailai touched down for Army while Liguaquan Mica converted one of them.

At Havelock Park Navy SC beat Havelock SC by 20-13 after leading the halftime by 10-8. Navy scored from two converted tries and two penalties while Havelocks scored from two unconverted tries and a penalty. – VP
