Dhananjaya returns with ‘Acid Wessa’

A playwright who has introduced many novel concepts specially audience participation with the theatre, Dhananjaya Karunaratne will hold a theatre festival titled ‘Acid Wessa’ with three new plays and his landmark ‘Sihina Rangahala’ which comprises five short plays. 

The festival will be held from January 31 to February 3 at the Lionel Wendt theatre, Colombo. The festival will kick off on January 31 with ‘Sihina Rangahala’ (The Dream Theatre) which comprises of short plays namely ‘’Valentine Enakan’, ‘Oba Sapekshai’, ‘Duwana Un Dennek’, ‘Last Bus Eke Kathawa’ and ‘Chandrawathi Samaga Rathriyak’.

On February 1 the maiden shows of two short plays ‘Double Game Karayo’ and ‘Buddhikage Jeewithaya’ will be staged while his another new play ‘Acid Wessa’ will be staged on February 2. In a rare move ‘Acid Wessa’ will be staged as an adult only stage production by the Public Performance Board.

The theatre festival is organised by Jude Srimal and it is sponsored by Sunethra Bandaranaike Foundation.
