Jupiter the giant planet

Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun. It is about 400 million miles away from the Sun. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. It takes 12 Earth years to orbit the Sun once. Jupiter has 64 moons. The four largest of them are Europa, Ganymede, Io and Callisto. Europa is covered with ice. Io has volcanoes. Ganymede is the biggest of them all.

It is even bigger that than the planet Mercury. In 1993, Pioneer 10 flew within 81,000 miles of Jupiter’s cloud tops. It sent 400 pictures of Jupiter. Spacecraft Galileo started to orbit Jupiter in 1995 and finished its orbit in 2003.

The better we understand other planets, the better we will understand and appreciate our own planet.
