Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s newest driver, Daniel Ricciardo, who will partner quadruple champion Sebastian Vettel for the forthcoming Formula One season, said that he was left feeling satisfied and entertained after his recent trip to Sri Lanka.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect. A lot more people know who I am than I thought. I’ve got quite a lot of attention and everyone has been really enthusiastic. This is also my first tour so I will definitely remember it. It’s always nice going to a new place; so first time here and I’ve had some really great experiences,” Ricciardo revealed.

The Australian racer, who takes the driving seat of retired compatriot Mark Webber, arrived in Sri Lanka as part of the Red Bull Show Car Run, an initiative which sought to offer Lankan race fans an intimate glimpse into the world of F1 racing.

The programme drew to a close on the final day of the Colombo Night Races, where Daniel thrice took one of Red Bull’s championship cars out for a spin around the course. Each time he sped past thick droves of spectators, the ear-splitting roar of his engine was greeted with equally loud applause.

“The track has actually been quite good, in sections it has been bumpy but the corners are quite good,” Daniel said while addressing conditions.

Some from the audience also gained a close inspection of two Red Bull race cars at the team’s garage, which was erected outside the Kingsbury Hotel.

Hype for his run at the Colombo Night Races began to proliferate a day before the competition, when his car was snapped in a photo shoot atop the Galle Fort.

“The trip to Galle was great. I also got to spend some time on the beach so I was very happy with that. It’s been a great experience. We have had a nice few days here. People have been very friendly and welcoming. So overall I think it has been a huge success,” Ricciardo revealed.
