The Executive Committee of Geneva-based IndustriALL Global Union has passed a resolution supporting striking workers dismissed at Ansell Lanka’s Biyagama factory.

The rubber-products manufacturer has been grappling with a labour dispute for several months now.

In a letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, IndustriALL General Secretary Jyrki Raina, also presented the resolution which urges the Executive to intervene to deny the pending renewal of tax duty concessions to Ansell; intervene and ensure that all locked-out workers at Ansell Lanka are immediately allowed back to work, in their previous positions and paid back pay to 10 October; intervene and ensure that no recruitment of replacement workers or contract workers is permitted while the dispute continues.
