The Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) Division ‘E’ 40-over Cricket Tournament sponsored by David Peiris Group began with 24 the participation from last weekend. The tournament which is played for the DPMC Trophy will including 11 newcomers as 24 teams will battle it out in four groups at 67 encounters.

The league round of the tournament which includes 60 encounters got underway last weekend and will run up to February 2, 2014. Matches will be played at St. John’s College Panadura, Ananda Mawatha, St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa, Thurstan College and St. Benedict’s College grounds while knockout round will be played at the MCA ground after the first week of February in 2014.

Sponsors DPMC will offer awards for the best batsman, best bowler, player of the tournament and the player of the final. Mercantile Investments won the Bajaj Challenge Trophy beating Dialog Axiata by 109 in the final played at the MCA ground last season. The 24 teams are divided into four groups as follows.

Group ‘A’: Hemas Group, Aitken Spence Group, Debug Computers, Brumby’s International, Avery Dennison, Expolanka Group.

Group ‘B’: Aviva NDB Insurance, Central Finance, Trellerborg Lanka, HSBC ‘B’, United Tobacco Processing, Access Group.

Group ‘C’: Union Assurance, AMW Group, Ceylinco Insurance, Commercial Leasing, McLarens Group, Orient Finance.

Group ‘D’: Commercial Bank ‘B’, NDB Bank, Asian Alliance, David Pieris ‘A’, Delmage Group, HNB ‘B’.
