A crocodile that had brought fear to people around the area of Pahala Maragahawewa reservoir in Rajanganaya was caught and released in the Thimbiriwila reservoir in Wilpattu National Park. “Measures were taken to catch the eight metre-long crocodile after villagers complained that it frequented their gardens and attacked calves and dogs,” assistant wildlife ranger D. Ramasinghe said.

The capture and release of the reptile was done with the assistance of assistant wildlife ranger D. Ramasinghe together with wildlife wardens Udaya Karunanayake, Kumara Seram and volunteer guides Milinda Sampath and Saranga Dissanayake and Wilpattu National Park caretaker Manoj Widyarathne. 

A few years back a crocodile in the Pahala Maragahawewa reservoir had reportedly bitten off a woman’s arm.
