Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel said it reached half-a-million Facebook ‘Likes’ last week, making it the first brand to cross the 500,000 ‘likes’ milestone in Sri Lanka. Mobitel’s Facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/mobitel) is an integral part of its marketing campaign which functions as one of the main digital channels to communicate new product updates and customer support to their wide range of pre-paid, post-paid and broadband services to their customers, according to a company statement.

“This is certainly a milestone to be celebrated. Our greatest appreciation of course goes to every single one of our Facebook fans, for their unwavering support shown to us to help us achieve this target,” said Nalin Perera, Senior General Manager – Marketing, Mobitel.
Mobitel said it has always looked into extending its reach and providing information through the Facebook channel where it acts as the foremost place to exchange ideas for the telecom firm’s fans.

Mobitel debuted on Facebook in December 2009 and has been a pioneer in the social media space ever since. Mobitel was the first brand to achieve 200,000 fans in October 2012 and has rapidly increased their popularity by achieving the magical figure of 500,000 fans within a short span of nine months, it said.
