Hemas Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Ltd, a leading distributor of pharmaceuticals and surgical products in Sri Lanka, recently undertook and successfully completed the task of constructing an Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU) at Aralaganwila hospital in Polonnaruwa district at a cost of over Rs 4 million.

The ETU was formally opened by Maithripala Sirisena Minister of Health on July 16 with the participation of Provincial Health Officials, people’s representatives, Hemas Pharmaceutical representatives and a large local gathering.

Speaking on the occasion, Sanjeewa Samaranayake, Managing Director, Hemas Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Ltd, emphasised that Hemas is a 100 per cent Sri Lankan company which always contributes towards improving the standards of health in Sri Lanka.

The Minister thanked Hemas Pharmaceuticals and stressed the fact that Sri Lanka provides a free health service which is much better in quality than most other countries in the region.

Aralaganwila is a rural farming community of about 100,000 persons. It went through difficult times during the past few decades. The health needs of the population are looked after by the Divisional Hospital, Aralaganwila which has now developed into a 32 bed unit with two Medical Officers, nurses and support staff and has an average monthly attendance of about 6,800 OPD Patients and 1,000 clinic patients.
