Deepa launches a brand she believes in
View(s):Deepa Waharakagama, is a familiar face to those who regularly visit “Skin” by Salon KESS. Currently serving as a senior consultant at Skin, (she was headhunted for the post), she previously worked as Clinic Manager for the local affiliate of Sothy’s Paris. Deepa spent 20 years in Singapore working as an aesthetician and international trainer at Svenn’s Laser and Electrolysis Centre while pursuing her Master’s in Beauty and Cosmetology.
Surprisingly Deepa started following a career in medicine and then switched to beauty and skin care, retaining her interest in heath all the while.
Returning home in 2007, she had to start from scratch and recalls offering her services as a beautician door-to-door in her apartment building, even making her own blend of wax on her kitchen stove. Today she is launching the ‘De Strips’ , a precision hair removal product for which she has gone through the rigorous process of obtaining Health Ministry approval. De Strips is part of the LYCON range, a well known Australian brand used by celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez and Kate Moss.
Launching “De Strips’ is in line with Deepa’s ambitious plans to bring aesthetic services to the standards she once worked with internationally. It matters very much to her that she is promoting a product she can vouch for with her professional integrity and expertise.
All this while juggling her time between her professional work and her young family. “It is never tiring work but pleasure,” she says. Not surprising for someone who believes that it is never too late to seek after the fulfilment of one’s dreams and passions.
