SriLankan Airlines and new private airline, Cinnamon Air has entered into a codeshare agreement on all Cinnamon Air scheduled flights within Sri Lanka.

Consequently, all Cinnamon Air scheduled flights will operate with a SriLankan Airlines’ (UL) designated flight number as well as a Cinnamon Air (C7) flight number. UL designated flights will thereby be available for sale on the SriLankan website, through all SriLankan offices and agents in Sri Lanka and around the world and through all Global Distribution Systems (GDS) that SriLankan participates in, the national airline said.

Commenting on the historic agreement SriLankan Airlines, CEO, Kapila Chandrasena said “SriLankan is extremely pleased to be able to continue to offer our passengers and industry partners the services of the very popular SriLankan AirTaxi product through the operations of our code-share partner, Cinnamon Air. We believe that this partnership underscores further the commitment SriLankan has to promote our nation in the key tourist-generating markets served by us, as an attractive destination with a wide variety of choices.”

He said that as part of the agreement between the two airlines, Cinnamon Air has branded one of its two Cessna 208 Amphibian aircraft with the SriLankan AirTaxi livery and this will emphasize and ensure the continuity of the well-established SriLankan AirTaxi brand in the domestic aviation space.”

Upon commencement of code share services with Cinnamon Air, SriLankan AirTaxi will offer daily scheduled flights from BIA to Koggala and Dickwella with Kandy, Sigiriya, Trincomalee and Batticaloa being added on subsequently.

Romesh David, Director, Saffron Aviation; the joint venture between John Keells Holdings, MMBL Leisure Holdings and Phoenix Ventures; that owns and operates Cinnamon Air, said, “We are confident that both SriLankan and Cinnamon Air will benefit from this arrangement with the resultant continuity and exposure of the SriLankan AirTaxi brand in the skies on the one hand, and through the global reach of established distribution channels on the other”.

Cinnamon Air/SriLankan AirTaxi domestic services will commence scheduled operations at the end of June 2013. Tickets could be booked and paid for via the airlines’ websites (www.srilankan.com and www.cinnamonair.com) and through all approved Travel Agents, Destination Management Companies and the travel counters of several hotels.
