Ladies’ College, Colombo encourages all students to participate in at least one sport and promotes this by making all facilities freely available. The College is fortunate to have a spacious back garden, tennis courts and its own swimming pool. However racquet sports, such as badminton and squash, have been difficult to popularise due to the lack of in-house courts.

In addition, the sportswomen of the school have lacked a gym where they could train and maintain fitness when outdoor training is not possible due to inclement weather.

Therefore, the school has taken on the ambitious task of building a Sports Complex incorporating badminton and squash courts and a state of the art gym for the benefit of present and future pupils.

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Ladies’ College which has been partnering the Principal, Vice Principal and the school community in this worthwhile cause will hold ‘LC Strides’ – a Walk and Minifair to raise the funds to complete and equip the centre. While funds to lay the foundation and erect a part of the building have been collected, more is required to finish, furnish and equip the building.

“LC Strides” will take place on Saturday, June 29 commencing at the main gate at 4 p.m. Walk tickets, priced at Rs. 1000, Walk T-shirts and caps /hats are available for sale at the lobby of the New Hall every school day between 10 a.m. – 1p.m. Walk tickets are also available at the OGA secretariat. All proceeds from the purchase of tickets, T-shirts, caps and other memorabilia of the Parade will be channelled to equip the school Sports Complex.

The walk, featuring vintage cars, a series of floats and a cycle parade, will end at the ‘Back Garden’, where a Fun Fair will continue the party. A multitude of food outlets will be selling food and beverages and the school’s clubs and societies will be raising monies for their activities by running exciting stalls.

Ladies’ College invites all present and past pupils, parents, teachers and well wishers to participate in the walk to raise funds for this worthy cause.
