Hotel J, another first in the Jetwing chain – a brand dedicated to select service and no frills accommodation was launched on June 8 with Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa as the chief guest. The first property under the brand is in Negombo, and the informal event was a splash of colour with an eclectic selection of bright cocktails served in specially designed mini-shakers, followed by a sumptuous dinner.

Featuring 35 rooms inclusive of a suite, Hotel J Negombo will be soon followed by properties in Passikudah and Nuwara Eliya. The concept of select service accommodation is new to the Sri Lankan market, and rooms at Hotel J Negombo range upwards of $37 per night.

Congratulating Jetwing on their new venture, Minister Rajapaksa said the new brand would complement their main offering to the high end traveller, by providing select service accommodation.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of Jetwing Hiran Cooray, said that having stayed in a variety of hotels, he had noticed that some of his best experiences have been in the places that people often overlook. “You don’t need all the frills that come with a 5 star hotel room, as most visitors usually look for a clean environment from where to travel into a country.

Hotel J has the advantage of being backed by Jetwing Hotels, as we have been in the life of hospitality for the past 40 years, and our core has always remained the same – an offering of passion, humility, tenacity and integrity. Introducing the concept to Sri Lanka is something I have wanted to achieve for some time now, and I look forward to furthering the brand of Hotel J within the country,” Mr. Cooray said.
