Our painter

We have not painted our house for seven years so the walls were very dirty. We found a painter and asked him to come. His name is Nelson.

He is as quiet as a mouse and quick as a bee. I was astonished at the way he works. He climbs everywhere without a fuss. He paints very fast and he reaches any high wall with the ladder and does his job. He paints any deadly wall that only Spiderman can reach. He is so good.

I call him ‘Basunah Seeya’. He is 60 years old. He has done so many odd jobs. He has worked as a garbage collector, a driver, and a helper (at the Colombo Port). Now he works as a painter.

He has two daughters. One of them is a housemaid and the other is married. He eats betel leaves. His paintbrush does the job. He comes at 8 in the morning and goes home at sharp 5 p.m. He runs home to see his granddaughters and he loves them a lot.

Our school trip to Ratnapura

Our school trip to Ratnapura was fantastic. It was on the 5th of June. We went there by bus. We left the school at about 6 a.m. First we went to the Saman Devalaya and we worshipped God Saman.

Then we saw the growing stone and the devala elephant. After that we went to the Ehelepola Museum. It was an interesting visit. We sang songs in the bus. We went to the Wijeya Resort and ate our lunch there.

Our next stop was the Glass Factory. There we saw people making glass bottles. Lastly we went to the MDK Factory. There we saw people making noodles and Soya meat. We had our tea at the factory. After that we came to our school at about 7 p.m. It was the most enjoyable trip.

The day I saw my favourite cricketer

It was September 22, 2012. My father had bought tickets to watch the West Indies Vs Australia T20 World Cup cricket match at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. It was a happy day for me as I had been counting the days to see my favourite cricketer, Chris Gayle live in action.

That day it was a gloomy day. I was looking at the sky all day praying not to have any rain, as I could miss the great opportunity I had got. Fortunately it did not rain. We went to the cricket stadium at about 6 in the evening. There was a massive crowd. West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first.

The opening batsmen were Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith. I was thrilled when I saw Gayle hitting huge sixes and fours which I had always dreamed to see.

The whole crowd was cheering Chris Gayle. He scored 54 runs off 33 balls which included four sixes and five fours. Unfortunately he got out caught and bowled by Shane Watson. West Indies scored 192/8 in 20 overs.

The Australians managed to get a good start but rain called off the match when Australia was 100/1. The Australians won the match by 17 runs. I was overjoyed and waiting to see Chris Gayle again.

The pet shop

The pet shop is a place where you can buy pets.
My pet dog was bought from the petshop. There is a
variety of colourful birds, cute pups, dogs, cats,
kittens and rabbits.
The owner of the
petshop looks after the pets and feeds them everyday. The pets are kept in cages. People buy them and have them as pets. We all like to have a pet. Hurry up! The pets are waiting for you!
