Tyronne Weerakkody topped the Mercedes Trophy, a renowned international golf tournament of reputation sponsored for the 21st consecutive time by Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC. Tyronne, who had an aggregate of 67 stable-ford points after two rounds of play qualified to represent Sri Lanka in the East Asian Team at the World Finals to be held in Stuttgart, Germany from September 13 to 18.
He was also adjudged second runner-up in Division ‘C’ at the Asian finals. Rohitha Silva who had an aggregate of 63 stable-ford points was placed second in the Sri Lankan team.

The top winners in each handicap category qualified for the Asian final, with an all expenses paid trip to Australia by Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC, the General Distributor for Mercedes-Benz in Sri Lanka.

This year the Asia final of the Mercedes Trophy was held from August 8 to 10 in Queensland, Australia. Sri Lanka was represented by a contingent of seven players viz. Gihan Wickramasinghe, Anirvan Ghosh Dastica, Shamal Perera, Sidath Wettimuny, Rohita Silva, Tyronne Weerakkody and Francisca de Mel.
