The annual general meeting of the People’s Movement for the Rights or Patients (PMRP) will be held on Sunday September 16 from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the Hall of the Centre for Society and Religion in the Fatima Church premises, 281, Deans Road, Maradana.

The chief guest and main speakers will be Prof. Carlo Fonseka, chairman of the Sri Lanka Medical Council who will speak on the topic ‘Whither Senaka Bibile policy — outlining the truth about transnational drug companies, how they are defrauding us and what we could do about it.’

Another guest of honour will be Dr. Titus de Silva, who has a doctorate in pharmacy. He will speak on pharmacy practices and on the issues that need to be addressed regarding the efficacy of drugs being sold in pharmacies.

The PMRP is a multi-racial and muli-religious voluntary movement campaigning mainly for a national medicinal drug policy to provide quality drugs to all people at affordable prices. It has also submitted draft proposals to the government for a charter of patients’ rights and responsibilities and for a constitutional amendment to make health a fundamental right.
