ASOCIO appoints Sri Lankan vice-chairman

Dr. Kithsiri Manchanayake was appointed Vice Chairman of the ASOCIO (Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization) during the annual summit held recently in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Dr. Manchanayake is a member of the Western Provincial Council as well as Chairman of AIMS Group and has represented the country at various IT conferences and government missions. He was also President of the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) training chapter.

SAAP 3 website launched

The Physiological Society of Sri Lanka, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is hosting the prestigious 3rd Biennial Conference of South Asian Association of Physiologists (SAAP 3) from November 7 - 10 in Colombo.

The SAAP 3 website was launched on February 3 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, by Prof. Carlo Fonseka in the presence of Prof. Colvin Goonaratna and the office bearers of the SAAP 3 organizing committee.

A new step in battle against domestic violence

Women In Need (WIN) supported by Women Defining Peace (WDP) recently launched 'WIN's Database' on gender-based violence cases which includes information gathered during work done battling domestic violence. The chief guest at the launch was the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Insurance Board, Indrani Sugathadasa.

Meanwhile, in recognition of the crucial work being carried out by WIN, its Executive Director Savithri Wijesekera, was chosen as one of two recipients of the 2011 Americans for UNFPA International Award for the Health and Dignity of Women last year.
