UNP backs call for Palestinian state

In a special statement issued yesterday the UNP called upon the Middle East Quartet - the UN, the European Union, USA and Russia - to support French President Nicholas Sarkozy's proposal to ensure that a Palestine state be established with secure borders alongside the State of Israel within an year.
The special statement issued yesterday said the UNP supported Palestine President Mohammed Abbas' application for full UN membership.
