St Patrick’s Jaffna clinch Noel Vimalendran T20 trophy

St Patrick’s College Jaffna clinched the Peace Building Youth Twenty20 trophy defeating traditional rivals Jaffna College by a massive 99 runs in the final played at the Jaffna recently. The tournament played for the Noel Vimalendran trophy was organized by Jaffna College for the fourth successive year which was played at four venues around the Jaffna district.

For the last three years the tournament was confined to schools around the north and east but this time around the organizers extended invitations to 11 schools around the island comprising schools from Colombo, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala and down South Galle.

From down South Vidyaloka College Galle bowed out after losing in the pre-quarter finals to Kokuvil Hindu College while Anuradhapura Central and Isipathana bowed after losing in the quarter finals to two Jaffna schools Jaffna College and St Patrick’s who were the two teams to qualify to the final.
According to an official the main purpose of Jaffna College organizing a tournament of this nature is to build unity among students and to open out avenues for the youth of North to mingle with their counterparts in the island, share their thoughts, learning their culture and respecting each others values.

Jaffna College 200 for 7 in 20 overs (K. Prashopanan 54, K. Mathusan 24: T. Anslee 3 for 32, R. Senthan 3 for 37) beat Manipay Hindu College 67 in 14.1 overs (S. Resitharan 20: T. Priyalakshan 5 for 11, N. Srikugan 2 for 20). Isipathana 164 for 7 in 20 overs (S. Dhanushka 82, S. Nilusha 21: M. Sathyanthira 2 for 29, T. Dakshan 2 for 30) beat St John’s Jaffna 97 in 14.1 overs (R. Sanjeewan 36, T. Dakshan 19: R. Siddartha 3 for 10. W. Harith 3 for 20). Jaffna Central 64 for 2 in 7.2 overs (N. Kokulan 27 n.o., R. Junius 21 n.o.) beat Nuffield College 63 in 19.2 overs (Y. Pirasanth 18: N. Vathushanan 2 for 1, N. Parrin 2 for 5). Kokuvil Hindu College 195 for 7 in 20 overs (A. Uthamakumaran 58, P. Pangugan 49: N. Withaman 2 for 25, S. Navod 2 for 46) beat Vidyaloka Galle 108 for 7 in 20 overs (S. Nimesh 44, J. Gayan 17: R. Silojan 3 for 15) Anuradhapura Central 194 for 5 in 20 overs (S. Rajapakse 62, N. Cooray 29: K Vithurshan 3 for 23) beat Canagaratnam MMV 96 for 9 in 20 overs (N. Kamsikanth 36: T. Krishantha 2 for 9, A. Sampath 2 for 11).
Quarter Finals – Jaffna College 127 for 4 in 16.3 overs (S. Prashopanan 43, K. Benildharan 25) beat Anuradhapura Central 126 in 20 overs (K. Weranga 42, S. Shanthakumara 33: K. Prashopanan 3 for 30, N. Srikugan 2 for 10). Kokuvil Hindu College 151 for 9 in 20 overs (P. Pangugan 34, R. Silogan 29: S. Kisanthan 3 for 22) beat Jaffna Central 96 in 18.2 overs (N. Kokulan 20: R. Pangugan 5 for 13, R. Silogan 2 for 7). Mahajana College 139 for 7 in 20 overs (R. Kobilan 31, S. Thilakshan 30: S. Vamanan 2 for 14) beat Jaffna Hindu College 138 in 20 overs (T. Madushan 42, N. Semi Finals – St Patrick’s Jaffna 154 for 6 in 20 overs (T. Clington 51, T. Livington 22: T. Ajith 2 for 15, N. Dilakshan 2 for 34) beat Mahajana College 50 for 6 in 10.3 overs (R. Kokulan 19: A. Darwen 4 for 25, T. Livington 2 for 13). By 70 runs on D/L method. Jaffna College 126 in 20 overs (N. Srikugan 33, R. Seeralan 27: R. Silojan 3 for 15, P. Pangugan 3 for 18) beat Kokuvil Hindu College 45 for 7 in 8.2 overs (N. Shankeeth 17: T. Priyalakshan 3 for 6, N. Kajanthran 2 for 22). By 39 runs on D/L method.

Third Place – Kokuvil Hindu College 169 for 7 in 20 overs (S. Ragulan 57, D. Athithan 32: K. Mathushan 2 for 24, S. Diluckshan 2 for 26) beat Mahanaja College 90 in 15.4 overs (R. Santhan 17. K. Mathushan 17: N. Sampavan 3 for 15, N. Uthayakumar 2 for 7)

Final St Patrick’s Jaffna 195 for 7 in 20 overs (R. Tudor 97, E. Prathap 43: T. Priyalakshan 2 for 19, N. Kajanthran 2 for 41) beat Jaffna College 96 in 16.4 overs (R. Seeralan 19: N. Srikugan 16: K. Norbet 4 for 11, A. Darwen 2 for 34).
