'Architect 2011' - Creating Momentum in the Sri Lankan Construction Industry

The steadfast luminary event of the construction industry, 'Architect 2011' - the Annual Session of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) - takes place in Colombo from the 23rd to 27th of February.
The 2011 theme 'Architecture for All, City + Community' explores aspects of the architect's role in national development including creating the city for the community and the new issues confronting the architect in fulfilling this task.

"The Annual Session is the celebration of the architectural profession, where once a year we create a platform for architects, the construction trade, industry and public to interact with one another. Our main objective is to create a momentum in the construction industry so that it benefits those who are in the industry as well as the public," said Archt. Chandana Edirisuriya, President of SLIA.

Incorporating the Architect 2011 National Conference (on the 24th) and Trade and Work Exhibition (from 24th-27th, 10am to 10pm at BMICH) the Annual Session brings together an eminent panel of local and international architects discussing contemporary issues in the field of architecture as well as creating the foremost exhibiting platform in the island for the construction industry. The four-day agenda beginning with the grand Inauguration Ceremony (on the 23rd) also incorporates the Annual General Meeting of the SLIA (on the 26th) and formal activities end with a Fellowship Night of celebration (on the 26th evening) while the exhibition continues until the 27th evening as the final day.

Guests of Honour Archt. Ruth Reed, President of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and representatives from the countries of the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) were in attendance at the media briefing. Also present were SLIA Council Office Bearers including Archt. Chandana Edirisuriya, President, Archt. Jayantha Perera, Immediate Past President, Archt.
