Funday Times - A Poem for the week

Christmas surprises

By Vinuri Withana (12 years), Lyceum Int. School, Nugegoda

The clock strikes three,
It’s so dark that I can barely see,
It’s Christmas already,
And I still ain’t ready.

I am cooking a Christmas feast,
With cakes, drinks and turkey at least,
But the cake’s all burnt,
And I still haven’t learnt,
To take out the turkey when it’s cooked just right,
The drinks are spilled,
And not at all chilled.

Just right then,
Dad barges in,
Sees the mess,
Gets a bit stressed,
Then glares at me,
Oh! What a Christmas surprise its’ turned out to be!
