The best of the best, promises BNS

By Dhananjani Silva

For those of you who have been awaiting a chance to have a bit of music, fun and excitement, it’s time once again to rock to the pulsating rhythms of Bathiya and Santhush better known as B N S as they take the stage to present an electrifying concert on October 30 at St. Joseph’s College Sports Complex.

Organised by the Past Pupils’ Association of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, the concert Rock to the Rhythm which will be held from 7 p.m. onwards is a fund raiser to renovate the school’s chapel which is over a hundred years old. The PPA website will also be launched prior to the concert at 6.30 p.m.

B N S, one of the country’s most popular singing acts who have made their presence felt in the field of music, both here as well as abroad for close to a decade or so, have released about six mainstream albums so far.

Speaking to the Sunday Times of what ‘Rock to the Rhythm’ is all about, Santhush Weeraman says the upcoming show will be an “energy packed” concert where fans will get to taste the brand new releases of B N S like Baila Gamuda Re Mix karala and many more.

The spirit of their recently launched album ‘Sara Sihina- The Fifth Element’ will also be incorporated into the concert. “This will be the first time we are releasing the album at a show. Fans can get the new album with B N S merchandising. We will also be singing the greatest hits that we have had in the past. It’ll be a mixture of the best of the best songs we have performed throughout,” says Santhush.

Anticipating the participation of a youthful audience with a lot of energy for the upcoming concert wherein the entire crew of B N S is performing, Santhush says songs, acts and special effects planned for the event will be very vibrant and exciting. However, he insists that the show will have something for everybody, young or old, as it covers different genres from Hip hop and rock to Sri Lankan music as well.
“Atmosphere wise what we want is to create a very interpersonal relationship with the audience. We want to interact with the audience a lot during a show. We want to give them the time of their life,” he says adding that they are looking to perform about 30 songs.

“Sometimes when we feel that the crowd is really into certain songs, we might sing those particular songs a little longer than we have planned. It depends on the crowd. Sometimes certain fast songs get really energetic, depending on the crowd’s reactions. We are expecting a lot of vigour and spirit at this show,” he says.

According to Bathiya and Santhush, when they see the crowds having a good time absorbing what they give, it is very motivating and gratifying to them as performers.

Explaining why everybody should come along with their “boy friends and girl friends’ to the show, they say a special segment on love songs is planned as a dedication for all B N S lovers.

Dushyanth Weeraman says that it will be a combination of both dance and song in his guest appearance at the show. Adding that he really enjoys performing on the same stage as B N S, he says he is looking forward to the show with great excitement, just to “give his fans what they expect from Dushyanth.” Dushyanth is sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. Bathiya and Santhush add that they support projects of this kind almost every year.

Tickets for ‘Rock to the Rhythm’ priced at Rs. 2000, Rs. 1500, Rs. 1000 and Rs.500 are available at HFC, St. Joseph’s College (from 25th onwards) and at all Harpo’s outlets such as Bayleaf, Commons,
Park Street Mews and Café Che.
