CBL records 900% growth in the last decade

Ceylon Biscuits Ltd (CBL) has recorded a 900% growth over the past decade from 2001 to 2010. At a Distributor Convention and Star Awards held recently which drew in more than 1,200 distributors, local and foreign business partners, sales staff and employees, the sales teams of all CBL product ranges including Munchee, Ritzbury, Tiara Cakes, Samaposha and Lanka Soy disclosed record sales in the past year despite the economic recession.

In a press release, Group Director and Head of Marketing and Sales Nandana Wickramage said the record growth has come in the wake of Sri Lanka’s post-war economic development.

Mr. Wickramage noted that it has been a tough decade for most businesses but now is the perfect time to look for ways to improve business and plan for an economic rebound. According to the press release, the prestigious CBL Star Award was won by N. Azardeen of Anuradhapura who is a Munchee sales representative with six years of service. Mr. Azardeen was recognized for his outstanding sales prowess.
The Group further took the opportunity to salute its 550 strong field sales force and the network of island wide distributors, encouraging them to work towards the company’s estimated sales growth of 22% in the coming year. the theme for which is Beyond Excellence.

The CBL Group won an impressive number of awards during the year including the coveted ‘Brand Excellence Award’ with Munchee hailed as the ‘Product Brand of the Year’ and ‘Local Brand of the Year’. In addition, CBL also won Business Excellence Awards and was recognized for corporate governance and best practices at the annual Best Corporate Citizen Awards by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
