Clubs seek court redress against SLC ruling

By S.R. Pathiravithana
Twelve cricket playing clubs will seek redress from court on a fundamental rights case on Tuesday over the SLC tournament committee’s relegation ruling of the under 23 tournament in the 2008-09 season which is about to commence.

They claim that the hardest hit in this scenario are the outstation clubs who are striving for survival at present. Speaking to the Sunday Times on the issue Kalutara PCC’s Praneeth Peiris said “It is the outstation clubs that are hit the most by this relegation ruling.

A direct result of this ruling will be that all school leavers will not join our clubs as we are not a part of the under 23 tournament.

When that happens automatically our clubs will run out of business and that means the death of outstation cricket.

What we are saying is that the SLC’s inept governance is directly responsible for this situation and Lankan CC which is based in Colombo will initially act on our behalf and file the case”.

Clubs that are taking up cudgels are: Matugama CC, Kalutara PCC, Ambalangoda Rio SC, Matara Old Servatius SC, Matara SC, Kurunegala SC, Matale Old Thomians SC, Matale CC, Police SC, Army SC, Lankan CC and Sebastianites SC.
