Hilton Colombo adds cheer to the lives of Children from the North

The Hilton Colombo organised a programme which brought joy and cheer to the hearts and lives of several children from the war zone in the North recently. In a unique initiative the Hilton Colombo hosted 100 children to dinner. The children who were between the age of 10 and 16 years, were from the Kadiragama School in Menik Farm, Settikulum north of Sri Lanka.

These children were also encouraged to paint as a part of the initiative and their paintings were featured in an exhibition at the National Art Gallery at the Lionel Wendt following which the paintings are currently displayed on the famous Giant Pyramid at the main lobby of the Hilton Colombo, and are for sale. The proceeds of the sale of paintings are to be equally divided amongst the children and deposited in their respective accounts for their future benefit.

The evenings proceedings commenced with a welcome address by the General Manager of the Hilton Colombo, Jerome Auvity, followed by an address by the Deputy Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare Hon. Minister Lionel Premasiri and a traditional welcome dance by two team members of the hotel concluding with a magic show! These children were given accommodation at Ananda College and Devika Balika Vidyalaya and the principals and teachers of the respective schools took care of them throughout their stay in Colombo.

General Manager Hilton Colombo, Jerome Auvity stated that "Anyone who wishes to purchase these paintings could do so and we urge the public to support this worthy cause. Every child has his/her own story about the war and these painting will tell you those stories. They have all been victims of the three decade long war which finally ended last week" he concluded.

The children who travelled from Kadiragama School in Menik Farm to Colombo made several new friends in Colombo and had many enjoyable and enriching experiences. These children and many others in the North live in hope of a prosperous and peaceful life in their motherland Sri Lanka.
Hilton Colombo's first CSR project for the year was a giant Easter Egg pyramid located at the lobby where the eggs were painted by kids from the Ceylon School for the Deaf & Blind and the Overseas School of Colombo. Subsequently, Hilton together with Dilmah filled the giant pyramid with clay pots made by villagers from Koulara a remote village close to Udawalawe National Park to raise funds for their community project. Look out for more on display on the Hilton Colombo's Giant Pyramid!
