‘Chef’s Diplomatic Table’ by Sri Lanka Tourism

Colombo based heads of foreign missions were recently invited by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) to an exclusive event titled the ‘Chef’s Diplomats’ Table’.

Held at the Hotel Trans Asia, the event brought together the US, French, Japanese, Norwegian, Brazilian, and Italian Ambassadors, along with the Deputy Head of Mission of Germany, and representatives of the Delegation of the European Union, Swedish Embassy, and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China. They were all hosted to dinner by SLTPB, in partnership with Alpha Orient, and Hotel Trans Asia.

The special arrangements incorporated the active participation of the invitees in the preparation of the food along with an interesting insight to gastronomy by Paul Topping of Alpha Orient. In this context, MD of SLTPB, Dileep Mudadeniya, assisted the chefs in cooking the starter, Edith Neururer of the European Union, did the soup, General Manager of Hotel Trans Asia Neroy Marso, put together the main course, and wife of French Ambassador, Ines Lummaux prepared the dessert, for the evening.

This unique concept allowed the participants to experience signature dishes developed by the Executive Chef of Hotel Trans Asia, giving an insider’s view to culinary delights and the diverse experiences our country can offer to foreign visitors.

Commenting on the event, Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), Bernard Goonetilleke said, “This unique concept of putting together the food, in the presence of the diners brings in an interesting aspect to the experience of dining. This shows not only that our hotels can cater to the palettes of discerning guests, but also that they can do so with sophistication, combining the experience of eating, with its varied stages of preparation.”

The ‘Chef’s Diplomats’ Table’ is the second in a series of activities that Sri Lanka Tourism has organized to reach out positively to the diplomatic community based in Sri Lanka. SLTPB recently concluded an ambassador’s tour partnered with the Central Cultural Fund, which highlighted the splendours of Sri Lanka’s past, including the cultural triangle. A journey to the south, incorporating nature, heritage, ethnography, and shared cultures as well as an expedition to watch whales is on the cards for next month.
