MAS partnership to equip rural youth of Sri Lanka

 

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) has set up a partnership with the MAS Institute of Management and Technology (MIMT) to launch the CIMA curriculum to rural youth in Sri Lanka.

The partnership was launched earlier this month at the MAS Institute of Management and Technology, MAS Holdings public training arm situated at the MAS Fabric Park in Thulhiriya, Sri Lanka.

A MAS press release said MIMT is a public training institute with exceptional facilities and infrastructure, including a fully equipped auditorium seating 300 people, 17 training rooms with labs for English language, IT, Textile processing and Sewing macine mechanics, a state of the art gymnasium, clubhouse, and residential facilities for up to 250 people.

With the launch of CIMA, MIMT will initially offer the Certificate in Business Accounting curricula. This includes subjects such as Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Business Mathematics, Business Economics, Ethics and Corporate Governance. Chandan de Silva – Chief Executive Officer of MAS Institute of Management and Technology said, “MAS is committed to empowering youth by providing opportunities in various spheres. MIMT offers incentive schemes such as discounts and instalment schemes to assist rural youth to follow their courses at MIMT.”

Andrew Harding – Director CIMA (UK) addressed the gathering on their strategic decision to take the CIMA qualification to the rural youth and noted that the facility at the MAS Fabric Park was very conducive towards training and development. He also presented the certificates to the CIMA/MIMT lecturers who successfully completed the Train the Trainer Programmes. Mr. Saliya Kulathilaka, Mr. Malitha Siriwardena, Mr. Kavindu Mediwake and Mr. Thushara Gunasekera were amongst the recipients.
