UQ again ranked among world's top universities

The University of Queensland (UQ) has been named one of the top 50 universities in the world for the fourth year running by the UK's Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings, released in October 2008.*

UQ is the only Queensland university, and one of only a handful of Australian universities, appearing in the top 50 list (at number 43).

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Keniger said UQ was pleased at its consistent ranking in the top band of the world's universities in the four years since the survey was established. "As a genuinely international institution, UQ operates within an environment of literally thousands of universities, so being in the top 50 is significant," he said. "We are also pleased that many of our partners in research or exchange are also in the top 100 or even the top 50."A range of reforms either recently introduced or in the pipeline at UQ will, we believe, improve the experience of students and of our partners in Australia and internationally."

Professor Keniger said UQ was particularly delighted that it had improved its ranking even further in the employer survey rank of 2000 international employers:

"We have an employer ranking of 38 out of all the world's universities. This is a key ranking in evaluating institutions from the perspective of graduate employability," he said. "Our graduates can be confident from such independent assessments that their degrees hold international cachet and will stand them in good stead." Professor Keniger said UQ continued to perform well across a range of quality indicators.

UQ was among Australia's top three research universities and had won more national teaching awards than any other Australian university. The recent 2008 Academic Ranking of World Universities : http://www.arwu.org/ undertaken by the Institute of Higher Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University ranked UQ as the top university in Queensland and one of the top nationally.
UQ again received a number of five star rankings : http://www.uq.edu.au/news/index.html?article=15563, as one of Australia's best research universities in the 2009 edition of The Good Universities Guide to Australian universities.

The UQ Business School in September was the only Queensland business school to be included in the Economist Intelligence Unit's Which MBA? Asian regional ranking guide :
