Training on presentation skills for Royal College students by Serendib Toastmasters Club

With the auspices of UNESCO Club of Royal College, a group of very enthusiastic future leaders are taking part in a programme conducted by Serendib Toastmasters Club of Colombo affiliated to Division A, District 82 of Toastmasters International (TMI), USA. TMI is a voluntary none- profit organization aimed at helping people improve communication and leadership skills by way of effective communication.

Founded in 1924 by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, the organization is now spanned over 92 countries with 11,300 clubs with a membership of over 250,000. The organization is divided in to districts, divisions and areas. The clubs, smallest unit of the movement, in India and Sri Lanka are assigned to District 82.

Inaugurating the programme, the principal of Royal College Mr.Upali Gunasekera reiterated the need of dynamic leaders for the country as it has entered a new chapter with the dawn of knowledge era of second millennium. The country has been blessed with many talented leaders who were past students of the College during its two centuries of existence. He expressed the confidence that the students taking part in the programme would also be groomed as leaders who would walk the talk. He also thanked Mr. G. Ramanan, Director/CEO, HNB Securities Ltd, for volunteering to sponsor the programme.

The honourable treasurer of UNESCO Club of Royal College, Deputy General Manager - International and Treasury of Seylan Bank, Mr. Ajantha Madurapperuma, a proud product of the College, delivering his address, expressed the gratitude to the principal of the College who arranged the programme in a double quick time having shown extraordinary keenness to give the benefit to the students.

Delivering the keynote address Mr. Chundika Ariyawansa, CTM, CL the Assistant Division Governor - Marketing of Division A of District 82, welcome the effort of Serendib Toastmasters Club for its initiative in helping school children to become better leaders of tomorrow. He announced that District 82 became world no.1 for the tenure 2007/2008 having achieved all the goals set by TMI. The president of Serendib Toastmasters Club, Mr. Sunil De Silva also spoke at the function. After the inauguration ceremony Mr. Sujith Bandulahewa, CTM, charter president of Serendib Toastmasters Club commenced the training session.

The main sponsor of the programme is HNB Securities Ltd and the sole media sponsor is Wijeya Newspapaers Ltd.
