Fright over kevun and kokis

A suspected parcel bomb placed in a bus turned out to be a parcel containing kevun and kokis.

The suspicious parcel was observed by passengers and crew alike when the bus reached a spot opposite the Sravasti MPs’ hostel at Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha, Colombo 7. The bus was plying on the 138 route.

The Bomb Squad was summoned after the passengers were asked to disembark in a hurry.

Was cockroach the killer?

An open verdict has been recorded on the death of a young boy from Talahena who died last week on being admitted to hospital after he fell sick drinking some home made fruit juice, Talangama police said.

Sahan Vajira Wickramasinghe (22), student of the Jayawardhanapura University was admitted to hospital after he fell sick on drinking avocado juice.

According to police it was later found that a cockroach has been in the blender the boy’s mother used to make the avocado drink. The boy died last Sunday. The post-mortem report on this case is due to be out this week.
