Ferrin Careem moves into record books of RCGC
By Harry Jayachandra

The August stroke play completion at the Royal Colombo Golf Club was once again generously sponsored by DMS Garments Technologies Ltd. whose Executive is Michael Matthysz the Rugger star of yesteryear.

Bandula Star Performer
Bandula Weerasinghe was the star performer on Saturday at the Ridgeways when he struck brilliant form to collect nett 69 in masterly style and win the “A” Classic in a photo finish with young Suhayb Sangani. Weerasinghe was jubilant at the Guv”nors and went smiling all the way home after the session he hosted.

Lalin still quite good
Lalin Samarawickrema was once again in great form with a classy performance of 4 under par nett 67 to win the “B” Division event in a photo finish beating Saman Premasiri who was on the same scene but with an inadequate back nine. Ranjit Wirasingha was quite elated with a splendid nett 68 and so was Ajith Dissanayake on the same score. Young Lester Weinman came up again with a score that pleased him immensely. He moved up to the 19th for some light pleasure and had L. Senadhira joining him with the same score and some good reasons. Surprisingly there were only three centurions and an equal quantity of confetti makers.

“C” Division
There was a ding-dong struggle for supremacy and after a close scrutiny and count back of scores Sanka Mediripitiya was declared the winner leaving Chandana de Silva and Y.K Wong at the gate. Chandana de Silva the spruce Airline Executive had excellent reasons to beam particularly as in recent months he has been struggling in the sticks. The jubilant man lit up the 19th with a small pack of pals for over an elastic hour. There were centurions galore and full capacity at the confetti production line.

Ferrin makes history
Ferrin the “merryman” Careem has possibly moved into the record books of the Royal Colombo as the first President to win a title event during the period of stewardship. Historians please help. Careem was in stunning form with a smashing nett 63 to not only win the Senior Division but also crack the lowest score for the day. The 19th is out of bounds to Ferrin but a few pals moved into celebrate on his score. Rohan de S. Daluwatte once again was in the limelight with a great nett 64 beaten by a slender margin of one stroke.

Abhayaratne wins
C.W Abhayaratne was the grand master. Superbly and miserly put together his nett 66 took him to victory in the Master’s Division beating veteran L.P.V. Jayaweera with a better rear nine. Jayaweera’s effort was praiseworthy.

Chandradasa dominates

The poolists once again displayed their brilliance. K.A. Chandradasa cracked 67 followed by J.M.D. Indika and K. Rakitha on 68 each. Grossly neglected these star performers go unnoticed or unrecognized by the Sri Lanka Golf Union and the Royal Colombo.
