Whiplash: The lashing action of a whip and/or an injury caused to the neck by severe unorthodox movement of one's head.
Whiplash is a term that the Rock 'n Roll community is well affiliated with. It's a term that was given meaning in 1983 when Metallica spearheaded the Thrash Metal revolution along with Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, Anthrax, Exodus and Overkill and so on, changing the face of music forever. Enter 2008 and the term still rings with the same impact and provocation as it did 25 years ago. A new era of artistes and bands have incorporated the old Thrash style, interlacing it with a myriad of influences and genres giving it the reverence due, while emphasizing its relevance and musical impact with a new look and a new sound.
Stigmata have carved a name for themselves in the last 8 years through dedication, perseverance and a musical attack that combines dexterity, purpose and prowess. Serenity Dies, another key facet of the region's musical evolution, hailing from Maldives, has built brick upon brick of their unshakeable foundation as one of Asia's finest exports.
United, the bands bring you Whiplash on Saturday, August 30, at Club Nuovo (Taj Samudra) which promises to be an unforgettable and unique concert. Tickets are Rs.750 per head.
The event has sentimental value for both bands who have not performed together since the mammoth Rock Festival Rock Storm in 2006 in Maldives. Metal heads are rumored to flock the venue from Maldives and all over Sri Lanka because it's a quintessential Rock 'n Roll party for those of you who love a great time and value music that is relentlessly crushing.
It is also 5 years since Stigmata launched their landmark debut 'Hollow Dreams' album at Club Nuovo (M.K.O.P at the time) in August 2003, and it's a celebration of Sri Lanka's first Heavy Metal record.
The Secret Band
A special competition will be held to select a third band for Whiplash which will be revealed ONLY on the day of the gig. Bands are required to hand in a very unique Band Profile/Presentation which should include (Band History, Profile, Discography, Concerts Played & Organized in the last 2 Years, Audio and/or DVD of Videos/Live footage etc) The closing date is August 20.
