Chilaw-Colombo road: How to ease the traffic

Here is a suggestion to help ease traffic congestion on the Chilaw-Colombo road: use the existing road alongside the beach from Chilaw (the resthouse area) to Colombo (Mattakkuliya). The project could be spread over five phases, if necessary:

Phase 1: Develop the existing section from Negombo (Munnakkara) to Wattala (Hendala).
Phase 2: Develop the existing section from Hendala (Wattala) to Mattakkuliya (Colombo).
Phase 3: Develop the existing section from Kochchikade (Poruthota) to Munnakkara (Negombo).
Phase 4: Develop the existing section from Chilaw (resthouse area) to Wennappuwa (Muttuwa/Nainamadama).
Phase 5: New section of about three miles with two bridges. Construct a new section connecting Muttuwa/Nainamadama (Wennappuwa) and Poruthota (Kochchikade), which requires two bridges.

There is ample provision for widening the road. It would be a great development if all five phases are projected together. The only new section would be Phase 5.

This project cannot be classed as “expenditure”; it is definitely an “investment”.
