One stop for local automotive fans

"It was all a dream," says Jayantha Fernando, a 26-year-old who is the founder and creator of www.roadrebels.lk. "I always wanted to create a forum which would cater to the common interest of the automotive fans and to allow freedom of expression," and hence, roadrebels.lk was created, with the help of Kolitha, the designer.. roadrebels.lk is a website dedicated to automotive fans of Sri Lanka and celebrates its 1st year in the internet sphere, on May 3, 2008. It contains a free and fun forum, a news room, a classified section to advertise vehicles and performance parts and a unique shout box for all the fans plus state of the art mp3 player powered by Sri Lankan HipHop maestro Chinthy.

With a "Sri Lankan" sense in mind, the website carries the "dot LK" domain which gives more of a sense of ownership to the Sri Lankan motor fans. Roadrebels is also with alliance with renowned Sri Lankan automotive clubs and sites such as Speedlanka, Racersedge and Autoboost, which brings all "Sri Lankan car communities" together.

The ZeemZoom page of roadrebels.lk is a space managed by Azeem (22), who is the creative graphic designer who constantly updates the page with downloadable high quality creative graphics. This contains retro graphical images which is used as wall papers by many fans.

Mike's Garbage (Mike's Garage) is also an informative page of the roadrebels.lk. This section also contains automotive articles written by Mike Abeysinghe, of the ST1 Magazine. These articles educate the readers on performance tips, upgrading car's current performance, as well as educating "why" and "for what" these performance modifications are done as well.

The Forum is the most popular part of roadrebels as it gives the members more freedom than most other forums in Sri Lanka. There are around 170 active registered members within such a short period, discussing topics with interests to converting their cars to turbo-charged rides, upgrading the car's outlooks, etc. The informative and helpful members help each other around with advice, recommendations and contacts. This online car community meets up at various events and nurtures the great friendships built online through the forum. The roadrebels.lk forum is managed by Gihan, Dilan, Isuru, Hisham and Azeem, who make sure the online forum of the roadrebels is running smooth. For the last 12 months this forum managed to add up to over 10,000 posts with over 550 interesting automotive related topics. The members are from all over the world and also from most areas of the island as well.

The advertising section is kept free at the moment, with roadrebels.lk proving to be the one stop online market place for rare imported performance parts, quality – used and unused vehicles as well as cosmetic enhancements for the cars. "It's the best one stop Sri Lankan online market place for all car related bits and pieces," says Jayantha.

roadrebels.lk is also an online photo portal for amateur photographers who post over 2000 exclusive high quality car pictures. There are photos being posted by international members covering the overseas events as well. With the participation of overseas members, roadrebels.lk members are kept up-to-date with international car events as well, with most of the international members being from Australia and USA. This is a step taken to connect overseas car fans and the Sri Lankan motor enthusiast as well.

The future of the roadrebels.lk totally lies on the hands of the loyal members. "We want to be internationally known and locally respected," and we invite everyone to come and join the rebels of the road. Safe Driving! Speed Matters!
