Army dominate proceedings on day three

Army dominated the third day’s proceedings of the Intermediate Boxing Meet at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium yesterday. In the light welter weight under 64kgs three boxers from the Army moved to the semi finals with the other coming from Slimline BC. In the welter weight under 69kgs category two Army boxers and a boxer each from Air Force and Slimline BC advance to the semis.

The middle weight under 75kgs category Army had two with one from Nugegoda BC and Navy being the others. In the four semi finals that were worked out W.A.L. Lasantha (Air Force) and L.S. Lakmal (Slimline BC) qualified to meet in the final of light flyweight under 48kgs.

In the flyweight under 51kgs P.D. Suresh of MAS Sileta BC and W.R.H. Wickramaratne of Sri Palee BC advanced to the finals. The bantam weight under 54kgs saw W.R.T. Weerakkody and R.K.S.B. Wickramasinghe both of Army moving to the finals while U.C. Sasanka (Unichella BC) and N.S.P. Silva (Slimline BC) qualified to the finals of the feather weight under 57kgs and some of the semi finals were yet to be completed.

The finals of the intermediate boxing meet and the trial meet to select the two boxers for the Commonwealth Games is scheduled to commence today at 5.00 p.m.-MSA
