Naweed topples Mowjood

Royal allrounder Haroon Mowjood’s reign at the top in the All Island Category of the Bata-The Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Contest was a short one. Though becoming only the second contestant to top the 10,000 mark, Mowjood has relinquished his position and thus given way to the Thomian allrounder Naweed Ghany who sits in the throne for the first time.

However all three top positions of the respective categories are wide open yet. In the All Island Category the gap between the first and the second place counts to only 29 votes and the gap between the second and the third position is only 1286 votes. In the outstation contest Tissa MMV’s Dinesh Chathuranga only has a slender 83 vote lead over his closest rival – Ishan Thilina Athureliya of Dharmapala.

In the Most Popular International Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year contest Asian International’s Aadhil Bakeer Markar also very preciously holds on to a wafer thin margin of 12 votes over Gateway Internationals’ contestant – Malith Silva.
Another very significant note for this is that other than Ghany’s move to the top, none of the other positions in either contest has changed.

Once again it must be reminded that only one name of a contestant can be included in one coupon. At the same time those entries which are in- complete will also be rejected.
