Memory of a smiling face is all we have

Rehan De Silva

Darling Putha, all that I have to say, I tell you daily, but I don’t receive a yes or a no. It was you who always completed my sentences, as you always stood by me. My suggestions and your ideas always worked together.

Putha, day in and day out I suggest things but you have not said a word for the last 17 months. We are lost. We have nobody. The good die young. We are left to suffer. We miss you, darling Putha, and we will always be your Ammi and Thaththi. We wait for the day we will meet you once again in God’s home.

The tragic and untimely death of our son has left a void that cannot be filled. Rehan was everything to us, a dutiful, loving and caring son.

A young wife lost a precious husband and a little daughter is left without a father's love and care. Three families stand devastated by Rehan’s death. In the wider family circle, he was a source of strength, ready to share with others and care for others, and generous in times of need.

One thing you do unfailingly is smile day and night in the indelible image you have left behind. We can never get your smiling face out of our minds.

Each moment that we picture you, our hearts sink as we realise you are no more.

Darling Putha, may you rest in eternal peace.
