‘Sara’: A suspenseful story on village girl
'Sara', the latest teledrama on Derana 8.30 pm teledrama belt on Fridays, revolves around a young talkative girl who lives on selling vegetables in the markets.
Directed by Nimal Ratnayake to the script of Sunanda Silva it stars Sujani Menaka, Maureen Charuni, Nihal Fernando, Pubudu Chathuranga, Jayalal Rohana, Chandika Nanayakkara, Sarath Chandrasiri, Asanga Perera, Kusum Perera, Rupa Gomez and Sudantha Thilakasiri.
A child is born to Mangalika, the house maid of wealthy planter Edwin. The father of this child is none other than Edwin himself and he secretly takes the child and dumps her on the road. Luxmi, Edwin's sister who comes to know this scolds his brother and goes in search the child to the place. Nanditha, a janitor working in the municipality finds the child and she notices Edwin and his sister who come in search of the child. Childless Nanditha brings the child up but she blackmails Edwin whenever she wants money. Nanditha's husband too has left her alone. And the child she brought up as Sara.
Sara's original mother Mangalike is made to marry Wilson and Edwin provides them everything they want.
Luxmi's husband, Dangalla has political influence and he has close contacts in the political circle. His son Charitha with the political backing of his father gets higher post in the police.
One day, Charitha who is on a raid sees 'Sara' and falls in love with her. Meanwhile Jeewa, a young man from the village too is interested in Sara but she does not reciprocate his love. Disheartened by this he takes to liquor and he gets arrested by Charitha. Sara, who thinks that she too responsible for Jeewa's arrest worries about him and walks into the police station to get him released. There she meets Charitha again.
Among the two Charitha and Jeewa who will be able to win Sara's heart? Will Sara ever be able to know her real identity? With these and many unresolved complexities, 'Sara' would develop into a suspenseful story.
