The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) recently held a Sri Lankan Food and Tea Promotion on the invitation of the Institute of Tourism Studies of Macao [IFT]. It was fully sponsored by Dilmah Tea Ltd and assisted by its Marketing Office based in Hong Kong. ‘The Institute of Tourism Studies of Macao as a tradition invites one of the member countries of the Asia

Pacific Educational and Training Institute in Tourism [APETIT] to conduct a National Food Promotion on an annual basis. This year, the SLITHM being an Executive Committee Member of the APETIT was invited to do so,” according to a SLITHM press release.

The food promotion was conducted by a Lecturer in Professional Cookery, Chandrasiri Tennakoon and Romuldo Machdo and Dhanushka Vidanage, two students of the SLITHM; the tea promotion by Jeewanthi Adhikari, another student of the SLITHM, supervised by the Director of Studies Kamal Hapuwatte. The promotion was held over a period of five days in the Public Restaurant of the IFT and 150 covers each were served for lunch and dinner.

“The event was so successful that during the last two days, the IFT had to accommodate approximately 20 covers extra to cater for the high demand for reservations. At each meal time, a tea demonstration was conducted by Ms. Jeewanthi with Tea Mocktails as well as Tea Cocktails, all sponsored by Dilmah Tea Ltd,” the local institute said. A Sri Lankan food preparation demonstration was conducted for industry personnel on the fourth day by the SLITHM Lecturer and the two student chefs.
