YMWL gives a helping hand

The Young Muslim Women's League handed over equipment and books to tsunami-affected schools in Muttur and Kinniya at a function held recently. The chief guest was Petroleum Minister A.H.M. Fowzie.

The gathering was addressed by the League's President Shafeeka Hassen and Tsunami Committee Chairperson Fahari Junaid.

Some of the earlier projects of the League include the opening of a day-care centre in Kirullapone to help women who could not leave their children at home and go to work as there was no one to look after them; the maintenance of the female surgical ward of the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital.

the setting up of the Educational Trust Fund to help needy students who qualify to enter the universities; and sponsorship for 16 orphans and support for 12 widows through a livelihood programme in Kotugoda under a tsunami relief project.
