New look from Semage

Internationally renowned Sri Lankan painter Jayasiri Semage will showcase his latest work at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery, Colombo 7 from March 15-17.

The exhibition will be declared open on March 14. Kalasuri Semage will present around 40 paintings which are based on new themes.

“I was fascinated by his painting depicting King Dutugemunu handing over his golden sword after winning the historic battle against the enemy.

Another painting that attracted my attention was the recreation of Viharamaha Devi getting into a vessel to save Sri Lanka from a tsunami disaster,” said Professor Chandima Wijebandara.

Semage has deviated from his traditional style and turned his attention on the style of Sigiri and Ajantha frescoes.

He says that these paintings are some of his best creations.
