Sri Lanka Cricket musical chairs have already begun

By S.R. Pathiravithana

It is reliably understood that Sri Lankan fast bowling coach Champaka Ramanayake who is responsible for producing the Lankan young pace battery is decamping. The former Lankan opening bowler who hailed from Galle will be leaving for Bangladesh soon to take up his appointment as their fast bowling coach.

Meanwhile Ruwan Kalpage who headed the SLC spinners clinic will also join Ramanayake in Bangladesh. The former St. Anthony’s and national off spinner who headed the Lankan spin department till the advent of Muralitharan will take up appointment as Bangladesh’s High Performance coach. It is also learned that the former Ananda College off spinner Oshadi Weerasinghe who was once the national spin coach will once again take up Kalpage’s position. Anusha Samaranayake who assisted Ramanayake will look after the affairs the fast bowling department for the time being.

The reason for the coaches to leave their SLC positions is an issue that erupted over their remuneration.

In another strange move Jerome Jayaratne who is in charge of the national cricket academy will take charge of all coaching and development activities of SLC very soon. Former Sri Lanka skipper Bandula Warnapura is in charge of this department currently. The grapevine also says that former Ananda school teacher B.H. Perera will be placed as the Administrative Manager of SLC.
